TerraLava — Custom Shopify Theme
Custom Shopify theme built at Akta Service — cart drawer, upsell sections, and free-gift logic. Store demo available on request.
What I build on Shopify
in production, app-free where possible
Day-to-day theme engineering from my current role — the same problems I write about in depth on the blog.
AJAX Cart Drawer
Custom cart drawers built on the Cart AJAX API — line-item updates, notes, and shipping thresholds without page reloads or paid apps.
Free-Gift & Upsell Logic
Tiered free-gift mechanics and in-cart upsell sections implemented in theme code, replacing third-party apps that slow stores down.
Custom Sections & Blocks
Merchant-editable Liquid sections with schema settings — so store owners can rearrange and restyle pages without touching code.
Metafields & Metaobjects
Structured product data with metafields and metaobjects — spec tables, size guides, and content models beyond standard product fields.
Theme Performance
Core Web Vitals work on real storefronts — deferred scripts, responsive images, and replacing app embeds with lightweight code.
Responsive Theme Architecture
Mobile-first Liquid templates from Figma designs — consistent breakpoints, accessible navigation, and touch-friendly interactions.

PerformanceWhy Your Shopify Store Crashes During Flash Sales (And How to Prepare)
You spend weeks planning a flash sale, run the ads, send the emails — and your store slows to a crawl or crashes right when traffic peaks. Here's how to prepare your Shopify store for high-traffic events so this never happens again.
DevelopmentWhy Your Shopify Store Feels Broken on Mobile (And the Code Fixes That Actually Work)
Over 70% of Shopify traffic is mobile — but most stores are built and tested on desktop first. Here's what breaks on mobile, why it happens at the code level, and the specific fixes that make a real difference for mobile shoppers.
DevelopmentHow to Build Custom Shopify Sections That Your Theme Can't Do Out of the Box
Shopify's section system is powerful — but every theme has limits on what's possible through the editor alone. A developer can build custom sections that give you full design control, dynamic data, and features no app can match.

A clear process,
no surprises
Every project follows a structured workflow that keeps you informed and in control — from kickoff to launch.
- Step 01 / 05
Discovery & Planning
We start with a detailed brief — goals, audience, tech constraints, and timeline. I map out the architecture and agree on deliverables before a single line of code is written.

Design & Prototyping
I review Figma files or wireframes, flag edge cases early, and confirm responsive breakpoints. This is where we align on visuals and interactions before development begins.

Common questions,
honest answers
Everything you need to know before reaching out. Still have a question? Just ask.
I specialise in front-end development — primarily Shopify theme development (Liquid, Shopify sections, Storefront API) and React/Next.js web applications. I also handle UI implementation from Figma, GSAP animations, performance optimisation, and ongoing maintenance retainers.
Both. For well-defined scopes I prefer a fixed project price so you know exactly what you're paying. For open-ended work or ongoing support I offer hourly or monthly retainer arrangements. Get in touch with your brief and I'll recommend the best fit.
A short brief covering: what you're building, who it's for, any design files (Figma, Adobe XD, or screenshots), your tech stack preferences, and a rough deadline. The more detail you share upfront, the more accurate my estimate will be.
A custom Shopify theme usually takes 2–4 weeks. A full Next.js marketing site or app takes 3–6 weeks depending on complexity. I'll give you a realistic timeline in the proposal — and I stick to it.
Absolutely. Most of my clients are based in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. I'm comfortable working across time zones and communicate clearly in English via email, Slack, or WhatsApp.
Yes. I'm experienced with PR-based workflows, Git branching conventions, and code review cycles. I can slot into your existing React or Next.js codebase without disrupting your team's process.
All code is handed over with a walkthrough and basic documentation. I offer a short bug-fix window after launch at no extra charge. For longer-term support, a monthly retainer keeps me available for updates, fixes, and new features.
Yes. I've worked with Shopify's Storefront API and Hydrogen framework to build decoupled storefronts using React and Next.js. Headless is a great option when you need maximum performance and design flexibility beyond what standard themes allow.
Yes — this is one of my most common requests. I work in a duplicate theme to develop and test all changes before any go live. You only switch over to the new theme when everything is approved and ready, so there's zero risk of downtime or breakage.
Every project includes a dedicated revision round after the initial delivery. I address all reasonable feedback within the agreed scope at no extra cost. Requests that expand the scope are quoted separately and added to the project as an amendment.
Absolutely. If your project involves proprietary designs, unreleased products, or sensitive business logic, I'm happy to sign an NDA before we begin. Just send one over and I'll review it promptly.
Yes. I'm comfortable working with Storybook, shadcn/ui, Radix UI, and custom design tokens. If you have an existing component library, I'll build new UI within those constraints to ensure consistency across your product.
I run Lighthouse audits at the start and end of every project. Specific improvements include lazy loading images, code splitting, tree shaking, preloading critical assets, optimising LCP/CLS/FID, and reducing bundle size. I target a Lighthouse score of 90+ across all categories.
I accept bank transfer, PayPal, Wise, and Bkash. For new clients, I typically work with a 50% deposit upfront and the remainder upon delivery. For retainer arrangements, I invoice monthly in advance.
